Infants: The children’s days and the environment in which they are spent are everything you could wish: happy, busy, safe, secure and stimulating. The children play together and learn in family-sized groups with a high adult-to-child ratio. They learn to swim, in our own child-friendly heated indoor pool, from the age of three. During their infant years they continue to learn through an exciting and balanced curriculum, their next steps carefully planned and put into action by committed and caring staff. The children adapt freely to subtle changes in pace and programme as they progress towards the junior department.
Juniors: The journey continues with the move at Year Three to the Junior Department. It is now that the wider world begins to open up in every way. Learning continues in small classes with specialist subject teachers increasingly involved as the curriculum demands intensify. Academically able children are stretched and challenged to achieve the best they possibly can; children for whom learning is less easy are fully supported and enthusiastically encouraged. All children become increasingly involved in the broadening range of opportunities – sporting, social, musical, cultural, spiritual – which together enrich their formative years. New pupils join at every stage, and all are quickly settled into their classes, with the school’s caring atmosphere ensuring new friendships are readily made. We do cater for the needs of those who are to move elsewhere at 11, but those who choose to remain for their secondary education thrive on the continuity, stability and security of the environment they know and have grown to love so well.
Seniors: At this critical stage, students need to achieve their full potential while adapting to the physical, emotional and social changes within their lives. Our Senior Department allows all students to develop their talents in a supportive environment in which high expectation is the standard. Many of our students achieve the top grades in their GCSE subjects. There is a dedicated campus where they have the space they need to discover the person they are, be at ease with the adult they are becoming and grasp the opportunities their gifts and interests open to them. We are very proud of our happy, well-balanced teenagers and of the open communication and excellent relationships they have with their teachers. For the last two years, Kingsmead has achieved the best GCSE results in the area for non-selective schools. Sixth Form: Our new Sixth Form will provide 1:1 A Level tuition covering all of our GCSE subjects. Boarding: In addition to full board, flexi boarding is also available for all pupils from age nine and is being reintroduced following a break of several years.
