Founded in 1744, West Nottingham Academy is the oldest boarding school in America! WNA is co-educational, serving 130 students in grades 9-12 or for a post graduate year. Approximately 70% of students board, with about 40% of the student body from around the globe. Dedicated to the intellectual and social growth of every student, WNA is an intimate, yet diverse community providing differentiated instruction and intensive subject exploration through a challenging and rigorous curriculum.
Students quickly transition to their new home and make many friends as the school year begins with a week-long orientation program. A solid ESL curriculum includes two years in English Communication. The ESL Director, along with faculty advisors offer support and guidance to students. With a ‘physics –first’ philosophy, West Nottingham Academy is proud of the Humanities program (offered to all 9th grade students) a robust Art department, choral groups, 12 AP courses, a focus on service learning and competitive athletics. The Mathematics Departments will take students beyond Calculus BC to the college level course Advanced Mathematics Topics. With 100% college matriculation, the college counseling team assures that every student will receive individualized attention and support.
Four modern dormitories, each housing 24 students and 3-4 faculty residences, are double-occupancy. Airport transportation can be arranged from PHL or BWI. Students enjoy active weekends, consisting of social activities, volunteer opportunities and on-campus programs, including the popular and annual Spartan-Athenian competition.
Located in northeastern Maryland, the rural and safe campus is easily accessible to the interstate, within one hour of the major cities of Philadelphia and Baltimore, 90 minutes from Washington DC and 2.5 hours from New York City.
