Ratcliffe College

About Us

Ratcliffe College is a thriving co-educational boarding and day school for 850 students aged 3–18, with boarding available from age 11 to 18.  The College is set within 200 acres of beautiful grounds seven miles north of Leicester and within easy reach of airports and motorways.  We are a Catholic school where children of all denominations and faiths are very welcome and we place great emphasis on the development of the whole person.

Examination results are excellent – For the last 3 years, Ratcliffe College was within the top 5% of schools nationally for students’ progress at A Level.  In 2018, 40% A Level grades were at A* or A grade.  At the top end, 15% of students achieved grades of A, A, A* or better.  All students who applied for university courses gained places with the overwhelming majority securing their first choice, many of which are coveted courses at Russell Group and Oxbridge universities, with 10% attending Durham University this year.

For the first time in the School’s history, the last ISI inspection judged the School to be “Excellent” in all nine categories.

A wide range of GCSE and A Level subjects are available and students are encouraged to achieve their best in a friendly, positive learning environment. Those who can gain the highest grades, will be stretched and given every opportunity to shine, but equally we foster a sense of pride and achievement in all our students.

Co-curricular activities
Students’ talents and interests are developed through an extensive programme of activities based on the “Big Six”: Chaplaincy, Sport, Music, Drama, Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.  Sports include rugby, hockey, cricket, netball, athletics, swimming, football, rounders, golf and fencing.  Many students learn to play a musical instrument and there are choirs and bands to join and concerts to perform in. Film-making and photography are also popular, along with a Debating Club which tackles current issues.  With over 50 clubs and societies there are so many opportunities!

These include: Chapel, outstanding Sixth Form Centre, high-quality boarding accommodation, sports hall and new fitness suite, indoor swimming pool, floodlit all-weather pitches and new running track, tennis and netball courts, theatre, ICT suites, art and design centre, music recital hall and practice rooms. Over £2m has been invested in new sporting facilities in recent years.

Separate boys’ and girls’ houses. Years 11–13 have their own modern room; younger boarders share rooms of no more than three.  The boarding Housemaster and Housemistress reside on site, with their own families, thereby helping create a family atmosphere.  Ratcliffe College offers an outstanding boarding community, enjoying a comprehensive programme of activities and trips, arranged for evenings and all weekends throughout the whole term.
